Did you know Rural Aid offers support to Australian farmers and their families throughout the year, not just during natural disasters?

At Farmers Warehouse, we're proud to be part of the rural community, and we believe it's important to share information that can make a difference to the people and families working on the land.

We recently welcomed Steph from Rural Aid to Farmers Warehouse, who shared some of the valuable programs and services available to Australian farmers.

From household water assistance and confidential counselling to educational funding, Rural Aid provides practical support to help farmers, their families and rural communities through life's challenges.

Domestic Water Assistance

Access to reliable household water is essential, especially during dry conditions.

Rural Aid helps eligible farmers experiencing domestic water shortages by coordinating deliveries of potable water to household tanks.

The organisation works with local licensed water carriers and may be able to arrange a delivery through a farmer's preferred carrier.

Good to know: Due to demand, Rural Aid currently limits domestic water requests to one load every four months. Eligibility and availability conditions apply.

Free, Confidential Counselling & Wellbeing Support

Farming can be rewarding, but it also comes with challenges.

Whether it's financial pressure, difficult seasons, family concerns or the everyday stresses of running a farming business, having someone to talk to can make a real difference.

Rural Aid offers free, confidential counselling for farmers and their families, with professionally trained counsellors who understand the challenges of rural life.

Counselling can be arranged on the farm, in town or over the phone, depending on what works best for the individual.

Importantly, this support isn't limited to times of drought, floods or other natural disasters.

Educational Funding – Helping Farmers Learn & Grow

Rural Aid also offers an educational funding program designed to help primary producers build their knowledge and develop more sustainable farming practices.

Eligible farmers may be able to receive:

50% reimbursement of approved course fees, up to $1,000 per farmer.

The program focuses on education that supports sustainable and resilient agriculture, including areas such as:

  • Soil health and improvement
  • Regenerative grazing practices
  • Biodiversity
  • Environmentally sustainable farming methods

Who Can Apply?

The program is available to eligible primary producers registered with Rural Aid, with approved courses attended by the registered farmer and/or their spouse.

Courses must meet Rural Aid's requirements, including being delivered in person by an eligible training provider.

Applications must be submitted before attending, and written approval is required. Funding is limited and subject to availability.

If you're considering further agricultural education, it's worth exploring whether your chosen course qualifies.

Support Beyond Natural Disasters

While Rural Aid is well known for helping farmers during droughts, floods and other natural disasters, its work extends beyond emergency relief.

The organisation also provides services such as fodder assistance, community development, rural transition support and opportunities to connect farmers with workers and volunteers through Farm Army.

Some programs are available throughout the year, while others depend on eligibility, current funding or specific circumstances.
